CUSTOM MANUFACTURING

Custom Tailored to Independently Owned Retail
Outlets
Customers advance deposits in graduated amounts in
order to receive an added percent of merchandise at
our wholesale price. The larger the order the higher
the percent of merchandise received. A container of
mixed products is shipped from Indonesia to Seattle
and then distributed to the store location in the U.S.
|
You can order from our catalog or website. You can also give
us information for a special hard to find product or a design
you would like to have produced for you.
Our minimum order is $500.00 U.S. We have been doing this
program with a variety of independent stores for many years.
Most are members of The Fair Trade Federation. We will gladly
supply references upon request.
Many of our customers like what we pick. They might have
special requests or simply use our services as larger chain
stores might have a “buyer” or purchasing agent.
Currently we receive at least one shipment in the spring
to Seattle. Turn around time averages 4-5 months. Deposits
are paid in 2 intervals, 50% each. The first deposit is usually
January and the 2nd is in March or April.
If you are interested in this program, please contact Kathryn
for more detailed information.
Full Container Custom Orders:
In this case we act more like a purchasing agent and customize
our services to your needs.
These orders are handled on a percentage above base product
cost from the artisan. We handle any size container and the
products can be mixed. The average fee is 25% of the invoice
value for a mixed product container. This can vary down or
up slightly depending on the complexity of the product mix.
We oversee production, check quality, coordinate cargo handling,
and export documentation. We can also coordinate ocean freight
and assist with any aspect needed in the way of customs clearance
if going to the United States. We charge 10% (mixed products)
for coordinating these services.
If shipping to another country we need to be informed if
that country’s customs laws have any restrictions on
products you are shipping. We cannot be responsible in the
event a product is prohibited or needs special documentation
if we are not informed. Usually our Freight Forwarders know
about various countries’ customs rules, but not always.
It is best to consult a customs broker in your country before
ordering product.
For full container Shipments we negotiate deposits on a per
case basis. All funds are due prior to the container being
loaded. This type of shipment is FOB from the Originating
Port. Our containers are usually packed on Bali or Lombok
and trucked or shipped by feeder vessel to port in Surabaya,
Indonesia.
Funds are all payable in U.S. dollars. We can make wiring
arrangements or funds can be paid to our headquarters in Seattle,
WA. U.S.A.
Direct Shipments by Air or LCL (Less than Container
Load):
We customize our fees to suit the complexity of the overall
project.
Textiles, clothing and often jewelry are shipped by air.
It is faster and sometimes it is the best and safest method
of shipping. It depends on the type of product, amount, volume,
weight and time considerations. Cost of product shipped by
air is usually calculated more on volume than weight.
For direct ocean freight shipments by the cubic meter (LCL)
you must allow for longer shipping time. It is also more expensive
per cubic meter than container freight. There is more handling
involved so the risk of breakage for delicate products is
higher. If you are interested in this method we will consult
with you and give you our best advice.
CUSTOM DESIGN
Do you have and idea for a product or a part of a completed
piece that would lend itself to being hand crafted?
Do you have a design for clothing or a textile art piece
that you want to produce?
Do you have jewelry designs that you want handcrafted at
a lower cost?
Let us know the nature of your project and we’ll let
you know if we can help!
Kathryn has been doing the learning by the seat method for
ten years and has met many talented artisans along the way.
Ida and some other local friends also have the inside track
on how to find that special talent because they are native
to this country.
CONSULTATION & TRAINING
Thinking of importing on your own? It can be a great life,
and very interesting. It is also much more complex than that
wonderful dream we all have when we get the notion and say,
“Wow! Let’s TRAVEL AND IMPORT!”
I, Kathryn, am available via email, phone or in person (if
logistically feasible) to give you a head start. You might
not be aware of some of the issues and pitfalls you’ll
face that could cost you more than you can imagine.
I learned this business by spending the equivalent of another
post-graduate university degree. Although I’m still
doing this work because I love the people and their art, I
was a hindsight planner. It cost me dearly – in money,
time and STRESS.
Depending on what you need to know, it doesn’t necessarily
involve a lot of consulting time. Often one or two sessions
are enough.
My fee is 75.00 per hour. If interested, we’ll work
out payment arrangements if we can’t meet in person.
I’ll also advise you on how to prepare so you can get
the most out of a session.
INTERPRETATION SERVICES
I, Kathryn, have done Indonesian/English interpreting in
a variety of settings. Usually my interpreting work involves
more informal situations where there is flexibility to make
sure all parties are understood.
I have interpreted in the United States for Municipalities,
Social Service agencies and the Federal Government. If you
want to find out if I am available and geographically close
enough at the time of your needs, please contact me directly
via email – Kathryn@Karisma.org
I do not do simultaneous translation. Thus, I do not accept
interpreter work that involves formal simultaneous translation
such as court trials.
